Heavy rain hits Lagos, many traps at home

Heavy downpour on early of hour Wednesday, has rendered many homes flooded across Lagos, as water reach mid-level heights inside residences and submerges major roads.

The torrential rainfall literally submerged Lagos, halting human and vehicular activities and forcing some schools to send messages to students to stay at home, as a pre-emptive against human disaster.

Some of the worst affected areas include Lekki, Gbagada, Surulere, Oworoshoki, Ikorodu, Epe, Eredo, and Bogije and some part of Oshodi as seen on social media platforms.

This severe flooding has left many residents trapped, also has destroyed properties, and disrupted daily life.

Some residents attribute the flooding to blocked waterways due to indiscriminate waste dumping, and lack of functional drainage systems in some areas.

Residents have called on the Lagos State Government to urgently address the problem.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has assured Lagosians that the flash flood being witnessed due to the rain will soon subside.

He gave this assurance while reacting to a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday morning.
