Chinese Consulate provides free eye tests, surgeries to 1000 Edo residents

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos State has extended its flagship charity initiative, the “Renew Hope, Rebirth from the Light Charity” Programme, to Edo State.

In a collaborative effort with the Edo State Ministry of Health, Yongxing Steel of Nigeria, and the Edo State Specialist Hospital, the programme will provide free eye tests and surgeries to residents of Edo State.

Over the past several days, a comprehensive state-wide screening has been conducted, successfully identifying more than 1,000 residents with various eye conditions.
The first batch of 60 patients has been selected for surgery and surgeries are currently on-going with the screening process continuing to identify more patients in need.

The initiative aims to restore vision and improve the quality of life for many residents, reflecting the strong ties and cooperative spirit between Nigeria and China.

The Consulate, in a statement, said it is committed to community health and well-being is evident through its impactful programme, which has already brought hope and relief to many families in the country.
“As the surgeries proceed and the screening continues, the “Renew Hope, Rebirth from the Light Charity” Programme stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to better health and stronger bilateral relations”, it stated.
