Consul General of China urges LASG to leverage economic potentials of Qingdao

Consul General of China, Yan Yuqing, has urged the Lagos State government to leverage the industrial advantages of Qingdao City, saying Qingdao is an important economic centre and international port city in China.

Yuqing, accompanied by Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Qingdao Municipal People’s Congress, Wang Luming, said this during a visit to the Secretary of State of Lagos, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.

According to them, Lagos and Qingdao had huge cooperation potential in import and export trade, logistics and investment.

They noted that in the future, more effective docking could be carried out in policy formulation and implementation, governance experience could be shared and more cooperation projects could be promoted in the fields of economic and trade investment, medical and health, vocational education.

Yuqing said Nigeria was a pioneer in the “Belt and Road” initiative and many landmark projects such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Deepwater Port, and Lagos Light Rail are becoming Lagos’s city cards.

She said: “Qingdao has a large number of world-class top companies in China’s manufacturing industry, and many high-quality products from Qingdao have entered thousands of households in Nigeria.

“In the future, there will be broad cooperation in the fields of manufacturing, engineering contracting, vocational education, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. The Consulate General will always play a bridging role and actively promote friendly cooperation between the two places.”

After the meeting, a handover ceremony of medical supplies from China (Qingdao) to Nigeria (Lagos) was held, and the two sides also signed a letter of intent to strengthen friendly cooperation.

Meanwhile on the same day, the Consul General, Yan Yuqing, had an in-depth exchange of views with Director Wang Luming on deepening local exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchanges with Nigeria.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Lee Industrial Park, and the Qingdao Free Trade Zone signed relevant cooperation agreements with the Lee Group and the Lekki Free Trade Zone, and the Qingjian Group signed relevant cooperation agreements with Nigeria’s Ibet Company.
